How dangerous are multi-plug sockets?

0

Most notible people plugging in appliances and trying to run all of them at once exceeding the rated amperage of the circuit. Rule of thumb-1 amp is approximately 100 watts. A circuit breaker will only operate at about 80% of load before it trips. Average coffee maker is 1200 watts (12 amps) so 15 amp breaker is already at 80% load and more than likely would trip (safety factor). Be aware of ALL wattages of items you are trying to plug into multi-plug outlet, which would overload circuit and if breaker fails to trip (and they do depending on age) wiring will overheat and cause a fire!

Recently, my house almost burned down, and all because of a poor-quality extension cord that caught fire! If I hadn't been home and smelled my house would have burned down, the very next day I bought a new multi plug outlet splitter and replaced every single one of them. I recommend paying attention to every extension cord in your home!
