With the release of Wrath of the Lich King approaching, we wanted to provide you with some important information. In preparation for the expansion, we will be issuing a new content patch in the coming weeks. Much like the patch made available shortly before The Burning Crusade's release, this content patch is designed to bridge current game content with that of the expansion and will contain some exciting changes and additions.

We have outlined some of the larger features scheduled to release with the patch below:

New class spells and talents
Stormwind Harbor
Barbershops in capital cities
Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades
Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles
Guild calendar
Hunter pet skill revamp
New profession: Inscription

As mentioned above, this is not a comprehensive list, just some of the major highlights. We’ll post the full patch notes as soon as they’re available. Regarding Inscription, please note that all Burning Crusade players will be able to select Inscription as one of their two professions and level up to a skill level of 375 with it. Upon the release of Wrath of the Lich King, players who purchase and install the expansion will be able to continue leveling in Inscription and the other professions beyond 375.

Cool! Who wants to bet it very closely coincides with WAR launch? I'm calling an September 16th patch day for this.

Blizzard is definitely playing up their announcements/releases with Warhammer. I think it is more of a factor of the fact that they plan to do a release every year than them being particularly nefarious.

Quote:
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade was the best-selling PC game of 2007 in North America and Europe, and it is also the fastest-selling PC game of all time, selling nearly 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours and approximately 3.5 million in its first month.

WoTLK will beat that and that's hard for any competing game to counter.

However, if it will happen... Warhammer will do it, but not right off the bat. The question is not whether they have made a game to beat WoW now, but have the made a game that people want to play that will live up to the market potential MMOs have right now. You can't just drop a game and add 10 million players overnight, .

Guild Launch's customer support guru, Mike, says that of all the games he's played in the last few years (and we've had accounts in every MMO released since later 2005, and have accounts in nearly every MMO) that Warhammer is "enough like WoW that you don't feel retarded learning it, and enough different that it's fun to play" so... in his mind they've met the "don't do things different just to do them different, but you better be interesting all the same" benchmark. Warhammer is the first game he's played that his review was fully positive about, so that's high praise in my opinion. I trust his "gut" on games.

So... the next few months will be interesting from an industry perspective and as a gamer. Woot!
